Guidance for authors

About Admap

Admap is a unique, long-established magazine with an international readership and an authoritative reputation. Admap sets out to be a practical source of innovative and challenging thinking about advertising, marketing communications in general, and the related research. This means that we are looking for leading-edge ideas across this broad field, and for case studies and research findings that illustrate the latest thinking.

Our readers

Our readers are primarily senior managers working in communication agencies, advertiser marketing departments, market research agencies and the marketing and ad sales side of the media, and it is also these people who represent the majority of our authors.

Articles

We have clear and precise specifications for the material we publish, based on our understanding of our readers' preferences:

  • Our ideal, standard article is c2,200 words, plus up to six
charts/tables/pictures/etc. This takes up three pages of the
    magazine.
  • For meatier articles with a substantial information content, we
will accept up to 3,200 words, with about eight charts, etc. This
is a four-page article, and is as long as we will normally accept.
  • We also publish shorter, two-page articles of some 1500 words
plus 3-4 charts, etc., but these are likely to be a bit ‘thin’ for
our needs, and we limit the number we will accept.
  • From time to time, we carry one-page 'rants' from people with
something they are burning to say.

Review process

While we are not an academic, peer-review journal, all articles are read by at least two members of the editorial board (including the editor), and we reserve the right to cut and sub-edit to fit our house style and the space available. Authors are given the opportunity to comment on proofs before the magazine goes to the printers. The decision whether to publish lies with the editor.

Lead times

Authors planning to write articles destined for our monthly feature section (see forward features) are advised that they should contact us well in advance of the copy date, which is six weeks before publication (publication date is around the first of each month). We are happy to receive articles or synopses by email, please send these to Dave.Howard@warc.com.

Also

In addition to the article, we will eventually, should it be accepted for publication, need:

  • a brief biography for each author (of about 30 words)
  • a photo (tiff/jpeg, 7cm x 7cm at 300 dpi).
